In connection with International Day of Peace, 2009, Funkor Child Art Centre, started the ‘Multi-coloured Scarf of Peace Project.’ We held a display of a 110 ft mural ‘My Multi-coloured Scarf of Peace’, at Fatima Jinnah Park, in Islamabad. ‘Multi-coloured Scarf of Peace’ is dedicated to all those children who are living under difficult circumstances and face discrimination. During the 2009 army operation even within Pakistan, Pushtun community faced discrimination, especially when the Sindh government prohibited their entry into the Province. But at an international level too Muslims have a ‘perception’ problem. At a national level, the art activity promotes Child Rights through images, and facilitates a discussion. Children are encouraged to look at the images and the messages they carry. Through the discussion they learn about child rights, rights of the girl child who has suffered immensely during the recent conflict where hundreds of girl school were blown up. Children also discuss the importance of living in a clean green environment, where they have fresh air to breathe and clean water to drink.
