Funkor is committed to providing equal opportunity for special children. We have organized book reading sessions for blind children and developed special books for them. When Funkor was invited to participate in the first National Book Day, organized by the National Book Foundation of Pakistan, in May 2010, Funkor facilitated participation of blind children, from Almaktoom Centre for Visually Impaired Children. Two blind children Najam and Maria, read from « Sadako’s Prayer » in front of an audience of almost 200 children and adults. The sighted children were awestruck by the fact that these children could read flawlessly. Since schools in Pakistan do not encourage inclusive education for special children, they are usually confined to special schools. For the visually impaired children, it was the first time that they shared the stage with sighted children.
